Tuition & Fees
Every January, the Board of Trustees sets tuition for the upcoming school year.
Full tuition for the 2020-2021 school year is $36,480 for preschool-grade 4, and $37,130 for grades 5–8. Sliding scale tuition ranges from 5% of full tuition to 95% of full tuition. Tuition includes books, supplies, and field trips.
Extended day program fees have not yet been set for the 2020-2021 school year. The 2019-2020 fees for the extended day program (in which participation is optional) are:
- Before- and after-school program: $3.50–$11.50/hour depending on sliding scale
- Enrichment classes: $114–$300 for 10 weeks; additional charge ($240–$400) for music classes
- Vacation camps: $25–$65/day (9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.); extended day available for an additional fee.
For families consistently using extended care for their children for more than 12 hours per week, Annual Full Care is the most cost-effective option. Annual Full Care ranges from $0–$4,500 depending on sliding scale.
Students are enrolled for the entire academic year. There are two ways tuition can be paid. Both plans require families to sign an enrollment agreement and pay a non-refundable reservation/enrollment deposit of 10% of tuition, which must accompany the enrollment agreement. This deposit will be credited to tuition.
The single payment plan gives you the convenience of writing one check to cover tuition for the year (tuition balance after deposit, due June 1).
The ten-month payment plan gives you the flexibility of paying over a ten-month period, from June 1 through January 1, March 1 and April 1 (no current school year tuition payment in February, as nonrefundable deposits for the upcoming school year are due in February). Arranged through FACTS Tuition Management, this program automatically deducts your payments from an account you designate on either the 5th or the 20th of each month. No interest is charged for this service, but there is a yearly set up fee. If you choose this plan, you will be required to purchase tuition refund insurance.
Under both plans, tuition refund insurance is available through A.W.G. Dewar, Inc. This plan provides partial insurance coverage in the event of a separation or withdrawal from CDS for a variety of reasons. The premium for this plan is based on tuition, and for 2020-2021 it is 1% of tuition. Enrollment is handled by automatic billing on the June statement. Families using the ten-month payment plan are required to purchase tuition refund insurance; the school strongly suggests that all families purchase tuition insurance.
Tuition does not cover the entire cost of educating a child at CDS. During the year, we will ask you to contribute additional financial support, to the best of your ability, to our fundraising programs.
