Preschool Extended Day Program

About The Program

Before and after school teachers provide care for students until closing, with students remaining in their individual classes (Leaping Lizards, Teddy Bears, and Starfish) until 2:30 p.m., when they are combined into one class, the Butterflies, until 6:00 p.m. 

Daily schedule:

2:15 - 2:30 Snack in their individual classes

2:30 - 3:00 Free play on the lower school yard

3:00 - 4:30 Free choice activities on the preschool yard/enrichments (enrichments run from 3:30 - 4:15)

4:30 - 4:45 Second Snack

4:45 - 6:00 Indoor/outdoor free play options

Enrichments

Taught by CDS teachers, community teachers, and instructors from accredited local organizations, three sessions of exciting enrichment classes are offered each year (Fall, Winter, and Spring). Classes meet for one hour a week after school and cost varies, depending on the nature of the class. Enrichment class are additional (optional) opportunities for structured, hands on learning experiences and carry an additional fee (all enrichments are sliding scale based on tuition level).

Winter session dates: 1/6 - 3/20 (11 weeks) NO CLASSES ON 1/20, 2/17-2/21

Registration for fall enrichment classes will take place starting on Monday, December 9 at 10 a.m. Please log on to your Ultracamp account to register and pay for your choice of enrichment class each day of the week. Registration will close on Wednesday, December 18 at 5 p.m. Balances are due at that time. Please refer to each program's website for registration instructions. There will be a two-week grace period to add/change/drop an enrichment- if you would like to make a change, please contact Erin.

Mondays: Art with Shaye

This class is for young artists. Children will explore different media and create their own art pieces in our fun and nurturing environment. They will learn about basic skills & artists while having fun with various art activities.

Mondays: Messy Science

The most important scientific discoveries in the world are made by the messiest scientists! During this enrichment, we'll say oopsies, make splats, and shout ick while learning what makes the world tick.

Tuesdays: Spanish Music with Julie and Gaby

Our Spanish Enrichment builds on the immersive environment of our Spanish program and adds an extra element- music! In this class, students will experience Spanish music from all around the world. Your child will practice basic Spanish vocabulary while expanding their musical range.

Tuesdays: Make your own Lovey with Radha

Your creative child will design then make their very own special lovey. Using a little technology and a lot of crafting skills, each child will walk away with their own very unique creature to snuggle forever.

Wednesdays: Creative Movement and Dance

A structured, play-centered movement class aimed at supporting early childhood cognitive development, physical coordination, social-emotional skills, and positive group dynamics. Building up to full sequences over the course of 10-weeks, the children will strengthen their awareness and approach to making intentional shapes, sounds, and rhythms with the body, inspired by various cultures across the world.This class follows the belief that the realm of play is where a child experiences the highest levels of joy and learning.

Wednesdays: Theater with Fitness in Transit

An educational and character developing course, it focuses on self-expression, both physical and verbal, and builds confidence through interactive games and improvisation exercises in a supportive environment. A physical and vocal warm-up will begin, followed by activities that connect an emotion or idea and the corresponding physical or facial expression. The course will include elements of drama, creative movement and musical exploration.

Thursdays: Tinkering with Guillermo

Tinkering is a playful way to approach and solve problems with materials through direct experience, experimentation, and discovery. In this class we will tinker with various different kinds of materials as we construct our very own mazes and Marble Runs. While we build and experiment, students will problem solve collaboratively, bounce ideas of each other, and have the opportunity to use their observational skills to guide their work. There’s nothing more exciting than watching marble zoom through tubes, drop through funnels, or jump across bumpers so come join us for Tinkering after school on Thursdays!

Thursdays: Cooking with Ngoc

Join Ms. Ngoc for a culinary journey around the world and back! Famous among staff for creating and sharing amazing gourmet dishes representing her family traditions, Ms. Ngoc will teach kids the secret to her fresh spring rolls, homemade sushi, dumplings, and more. Healthy, fun, and simple snacks will also be included: rainbow fishes, strawberry shakes, mini-cracker sandwiches, and more.

Fridays: Gymnastics with Fitness in Transit

Brought to CDS by Fitness in Transit, this class focuses on building body confidence, coordination, motor skills, strength, and flexibility as well as love of moving that will endure through to adulthood. Each class begins with a warm-up, incorporating age-appropriate songs and imagination games. The second section of class focuses on age-appropriate tumbling passes and movement exploration that builds integrated strength and coordination for more advanced tumbling and inverted work. The class introduces a new piece of equipment each week.

Fridays: Jamming 101

Bringing over 10 years of early childhood music experience with him, Alexei Wajchman joins us to lead an immersive new music class. Students will learn basic musicality (like staying in rhythm) and instrumentation (what instruments we use to make different sounds) while jamming together and having fun. Songs will include old classics and originals written for and by the students.
