With the first week of school in the books, the students are beginning to settle in and get back into “school mode,” which is exciting to see. We are excited for the 5th and 6th grade students as they gear up for their trip out to Westminster Woods. Let’s all hope that the weather is agreeable up in Occidental for their visit.
Back to School Night
Please join us for Middle School Back to School night on Thursday, September 14. The evening will begin with an Athletics Parent Meeting at 5:15 p.m. and end with the PTTA Wine and Cheese event immediately following the classroom sessions. The best part is being able to get to know other MS parents and have a chance to get to know the teachers a bit better. How’s that for an extracurricular incentive to attend?
Ask your child about our new motto, “Do the Right Thing,” and how it is being applied in different areas of the school and times during the school day. Advisors talked through this during advisory this week in addition to playing some “getting to know you” games. Also, be on the look out for upcoming ParentSquare posts from teachers to update you on current happenings in their classrooms, homerooms, and advisories!
Start of School – Monday through Thursday
The doors of the 601 Dolores campus will open at 8:00 a.m., with early study hall available from 7:30-8:00 a.m. Any students who arrive prior to 8:15 will be sent to the study hall room, but will not be charged in order to maintain supervision.
Classes begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. Students arriving to class after that time will be marked late. Please revisit the Attendance Policy in the MS handbook if you have any questions about our expectations about lateness and attendance.
7th and 8th Grade PE
For 7th and 8th graders who have PE first period (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for 8th grade; Thursday only for 7th grade), the doors to the Boys and Girls Club will open at 8:15 a.m. If you need to drop your child off earlier than that, please do so at 601.
Friday Assembly Mornings
5th and 7th grade students should be dropped off at the yard at 333 once the gate opens at 8:00 a.m. 6th graders should be dropped off at the Boys and Girls Club starting at 8:00 a.m.; please use the entrance on Guerrero Street. 8th graders should be dropped off at 601 before 8:15 a.m., when they will walk up to the yard together.
End of the School Day/Pick-up
If you pick up your child in an automobile in the afternoon, please do not stop in any of the crosswalks because the traffic lights are now fully functional. Also, we have already received complaints from residents on Cumberland about double parked cars and blocked driveways, so please help us be good neighbors!
