Nexplore Games

Nexplore Games is an innovative program that uses an internationally-acclaimed selection of strategy and mind games to enhance 21st century life skills and teach students how to think, rather than what to think. Nexplore Games is the bridge that connects the world of games to the real world. The Nexplore Games Method is simple, yet powerful:

PLAY - In the first stage, students learn a cutting edge strategy game. Every class, a different game is introduced and explored.

LEARN - In the second stage, students learn game strategies and underlying thinking concepts to improve their game skills and metacognition.

APPLY - In the third stage, students are guided to make connections and applications to the real world.

Renegade Tinkering Club Girls Only

Tinker Challenge! For our most intrepid and creative inventors! Tinker Challenge offers tinkerers exciting challenges every week. Young makers get their creative juices flowing while they hone their engineering and problem-solving skills. Each week they are presented with a new problem and given a set amount of materials to use. There is no predetermined answer, the path is open-ended, but has a desired outcome. Teamwork is sometimes part of the challenge as well as part of the solution. Sometimes individually, and sometimes as a team, we guide Renegade Kids to figure out for themselves how to address each challenge with the materials provided. Renegade Tinkering Club always focuses on growth mindset learning, community building and positive feedback, scientific and design methods, and role models.

Capoeira

ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco’s mission is to preserve, develop, and share the Brazilian martial art of capoeira with integrity, and to use capoeira and culture as a catalyst for connecting people and for building healthy, just, vibrant, and socially responsible communities. This enrichment provides a unique opportunity to transform the classroom into a space for cultural and artistic exploration. It offers students an active, hands-on, and in-depth cultural arts experience and provides physical, artistic, and social skill-building through consecutive learning experiences. Working independently, in partners, and as a group, students learn basic capoeira movements, practical application of these movements, and how to “play” capoeira using the movements in improvisational “games” with each other. Youth are introduced to simple songs in Portuguese, capoeira rhythms and instruments, and stories about the history of the art.
