annual events
Listed below are the annual all-school events CDS families are invited to attend.

Welcome Picnic - hosted by the PTTA, this is the first all-school event of the school year, giving children, parents, teachers and staff a chance to greet new friends and reconnect with old ones.

Back to School Night - this is an evening meeting in September for parents to hear about the state of the school and plans for the upcoming year. In addition, parents are invited to meet as a group with their children's teachers and learn about plans specific to their class.

Grandparents and Special Friends Day - held the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, this is a day to introduce grandparents and other special friends to our school. Grandparents and special friends are welcomed at the morning assembly, tour the school and participate in the classrooms.

Winter Performance - each year, the students and teachers collaborate on a unique CDS winter performance encompassing all of our arts programs and lots and lots of glitter. Parents, siblings, grandparents and friends are invited to attend the performance just prior to winter break.

Cesar Chavez' Birthday - this event celebrates the life and work of Cesar Chavez, whose activism on behalf of social justice serves as one of the models for our school's mission.

Earth Day - this event celebrates the difference we can make when we take responsibility for, and care about, our environment and the earth.

FIESTA: Community Celebration and Benefit Auction - this annual spring fundraiser for adults includes dinner, a silent and live auction, and lots of dancing. This fun event celebrates our wonderful community.

Country Fair - a much-anticipated highlight of the school year, our spring fair celebrates the best of CDS. The event begins with the annual shearing of the sheep, followed by lots of old-fashioned games, a farmer's market, bake sale, live music and delicious barbecue.
